Family Council

The Family Council is an independent, self-led group of caregivers and loved ones of residents at St. Lawrence Lodge. We meet monthly to be a collective voice for residents and families—communicating, informing, and collaborating with the Lodge to enhance care and quality of life. Family Councils are recognized in Ontarios Fixing Long‑Term Care Act, 2021 (FLTC Act) as a key partner in oversight and continuous improvement (see https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/21f39).

Why get involved

  • Keeps you informed on what is going on at the facility.
  • Gives you input into decisions and changes in the facility that may affect your family member.
  • Enables you to identify residents’ needs that can be met through an organized effort.
  • Gives you an opportunity to voice your concerns and become a more informed and effective advocate.
  • Gives you an opportunity to meet other families.
  • Gives you support and understanding through shared experiences with other families.
  • Gives you an opportunity to use your experience, skills, interests and talents to benefit all residents!
